"In my 23 years across 22 countries, I saw one trap: The hunger for power makes many Christians in Africa worship angels they think is Holy Spirit."
1. THE HOLY SPIRIT - Who He Is
He is not a power, He is God Himself.
- He is Creator: Genesis 1:2 - "The Spirit of God was hovering over the waters"
- He glorifies Jesus, not Himself: John 16:14 - "He shall glorify me"
- He leads to holiness & repentance: Galatians 5:22-23 - Fruit is love, joy, peace, self-control... not fear, not money.
- He speaks according to Scripture: 2 Peter 1:21
Sign of Holy Spirit: Points people to Jesus, brings peace, convicts of sin, aligns with Bible.
2. FAMILIAR SPIRITS & FALLEN ANGELS - Who They Are
- Fallen angels: Revelation 12:4, 12:9 - "His tail drew a third of the stars of heaven" - Angels who followed Lucifer.
- Familiar spirits: Leviticus 19:31 - "Regard not them that have familiar spirits" - Spirits that pretend to know you, imitate dead relatives, give false prophecy.
How they operate in churches today:
- They demand worship: Holy Spirit never demands worship for Himself. Fallen angels do. Colossians 2:18 - "Let no man beguile you... worshipping of angels"
- They give accurate information for money: Acts 16:16-18 - The girl with spirit of divination. She said true things about Paul, but was not from God. Many "prophets" today do same - accurate phone numbers, but no repentance.
- They bring fear & control: Romans 8:15 - "ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear" - If a "prophet" makes you afraid to leave his church, that's not Holy Spirit.
- They love money and honor: 2 Peter 2:3 - "Through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you"
3. HOW TO DISCERN
Source:
Holy Spirit - Comes from throne of God | Familiar Spirit - Comes from fallen throne
- Message: Holy Spirit - "Repent, follow Jesus" | Familiar Spirit - "I see your enemies, bring money for oil"
- Fruit: Holy Spirit - Peace, humility | Familiar Spirit - Fear, confusion, pride in prophet
- Scripture: Holy Spirit - Never contradicts Bible | Familiar Spirit - Adds new revelations against Bible
- Jesus: Holy Spirit - Confesses Jesus came in flesh - 1 John 4:2 | Familiar Spirit - Talks more about angels, spiritual father than Jesus
4. Scriptures to use
2 Corinthians 11:14 - "Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light." - This is the key verse! Fallen angels appear as bright, powerful angels.
Hebrews 1:14 - "Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?" - True angels SERVE us, they don't let us worship them.
Revelation 22:8-9 - John tried to worship an angel, the angel said "See thou do it not... worship God." - Any angel that accepts worship is FALLEN.
